Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Mexico

Abstract: This conference will present an overview of some research that has been conducted about the understanding of the limit of a function by students of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of BUAP. The APOE (Action, Process, Object, Scheme) theoretical framework that has supported these investigations will be briefly explained, evidence of the most important results will be shown and the corresponding conclusions will be presented to the attendees. One of the most important results that has been identified in this research is the difficulty of students to work on situations related to the limit of a function in the graphic record and another of the most important is the theoretical description of the understanding of this concept that is based on the APOE theory and on Duval's Semiotic Records.

Semblance: In 1989, she completed her studies for a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics the Benemérita Autonomous University of Puebla, (BUAP). She obtained the title of Master in Mathematical Sciences in 2000 and graduated as a Doctor in Mathematical Sciences in 2004 at BUAP.

She has published 36 research articles in national and international specialized journals, is the author of 11 chapters in different books and co-editor of the books that emerged from the International Workshop on Trends in Research-Based Mathematics Education (TEMBI). She is also co-author of the book “Actividades que contribuyen a la comprensión del concepto de fracción”. He has taught more than 70 courses at the different levels of bachelor's, masters and doctoral degrees at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM), in addition she has supervised 30 theses for bachelor's and master's degrees, two doctoral theses in mathematical sciences and four doctoral theses in mathematics education in progress.

She is currently a Professor-researcher in the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at BUAP, is the coordinator of the postgraduate program in Mathematics Education. Member of the Network of Research Centers in Educational Mathematics (Red Cimates) at Mexican Society of Research in Mathematics Education (SOMIDEM) and member of the Ibero-American MTSK Network. She is part of the BUAP Research Registry and has a PRODEP Profile, and is a member of the SNII level I in the area of Human and Behavioral Sciences. Her lines of research in Mathematics Education are primarily concerned to the learning of Calculus, APOE Theory and the MTSK model.
