From quaternions to total spaces

Abstract: The title of the talk stems from the fact that Dr. Juan Angoa’s first serious work in mathematics is his undergraduate, which is titled Los cuaterniones y el grupo de Brauer, and his latest article, accepted just three months ago, is titled A note on total spaces. The title also intends to suggest that Juan Angoa’s work at our Faculty includes the formation of many work teams along with his “cuates” (cuaterniones) and with the students who have turned to him for thesis supervision or to undertake a summer research stay. In those working groups he has produced many textbooks for our Faculty’s undergraduate programs and conducted research in Algebra, Set-Theoretic Topology, General Topology, Categorical Topology, Point-Free Topology, and even Total Spaces, in short, the totality of spaces; and even more: he has opened up spaces for philosophical, academic, and political discussion. All this immense work, almost never properly appreciated, deserves recognition and gratitude, and what better time for this than now, as he celebrates 50 years of work at this Faculty, and that this recognition takes place at this 13CIMA, so that this goes, 'from the FCFM-BUAP Mathematics Academy to the world.'

Semblance:He completed his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies, all in Mathematics, at the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He has been working at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM-BUAP) for 45 years, where he has supervised many undergraduate theses, somewhat fewer master's theses, and very few doctoral theses. A dilettante of music and geometry, he conducts his research in the field of Topology, having had the good fortune to be a “cuate” (very close friend) and colleague of Juan Angoa Amador for 45 years.
