Resumen W. Bietenholtz:

We introduce general aspects of cosmic rays, in particular in view of the GZK energy cutoff. Next we discuss possibilities of a spontaneous breaking of Lorentz invariance, focusing on the scenario of particle specific maximal attainable velocities. We consider applications to ultra high energy cosmic rays and to neutrino oscillation. We also address cosmic photons from blazars or gamma ray bursts. Precision tests of the photon dispersion relation allow for conclusions not far below the Planck scale. Finally we review recent developments due to data by the Pierre Auger Collaboration.
