The house of the Marquis, located in the 4 north number 6 is also known as House of the Diligences. It is a building constructed during the sixteenth century, and it is located in the historical center of the city of Puebla, in the state of Puebla, Mexico. It receives its name for have being the home of the Marquis Francisco Javier Gómez de Vasconcelos.

In the middle of the nineteenth century the first electromagnetic telegraph of the city was installed in this building. As a historical fact, it should be noted that from this building were issued the reports which General Ignacio Zaragoza sent to President Benito Juarez to keep him informed of the vicissitudes of the battle of May 5, 1862. From this building was departed the historic telegram in which Zaragoza stated that 'National weapons have been covered in glory' by notifying the victory over the French army.

Since 1985 it hosts the Emiliano Zapata High School of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. Nowadays, it is considered one of the most important buildings of the first square of the city. In this occasion, it shares its facilities with the Faculty of Physical Mathematical Sciences and will be the venue of SLALM 2017.

Passports and Visas

Citizens of the U.S., Canada, the European Union, Japan, and some countries of Latin America are not required to obtain visas for short visits (up to 3 months) to Mexico; you will require only a valid passport and a landing card supplied by the airlines. Citizens of most other countries will require a visa obtainable at the nearest Mexican consulate or embassy. In the (unlikely) event that you have problems obtaining a visa, please notify us as soon as possible as the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla may be able to intervene to expedite the visa.

Airports

There are two airports near the city of Puebla, the International Airport of Mexico City, officially named Benito Juarez International Airport of Mexico City (MEX) and the Puebla International Airport or Hermanos Serdán International Airport (PBC). The airport of Puebla is smaller than the Airport of Mexico City, so the variety of flights is reduced and the cost usually increases. On the other hand, the service of taxis from the Airport of Puebla to the city of Puebla takes about 50 minutes but it is too expensive considering that the distance is short. Therefore, it is not recommendable to arrive at Puebla airport.

Ground transport

Transfer from the International Airport of Mexico City (code MEX)

Estrella Roja buses provide first-class direct service from any of the two terminals within the International Airport of Mexico City to Puebla with a cost of $300 pesos (~ $16 USD) and offer departures every 30 minutes. The trip takes approximately two and a half hours. These buses arrive at two different terminals:

  • Central de Autobuses de Puebla (CAPU).
  • Terminal de la 4 poniente en el centro de Puebla.

We recommend taking the bus to the “4 poniente” terminal, it is the nearest terminal to the center of the city and since it is a small terminal it is less congested. Taxis within this terminal are safe and charge about $ 50 pesos (~ 2.5 USD) for the trip to the city center. However, if you take the bus to the “CAPU” from there it is recommendable to take an authorized taxi at the ticket office inside the terminal, depending on the address a fee is charged, approximately $ 80 pesos (~ 4 USD) to the downtown area.

Transfer from other points

In Mexico City, outside the airport there are several terminals such as: Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente (TAPO), Terminal Central de Autobuses del Norte and Terminal Taxqueña. From any of them you can find diverse lines of buses with departures to Puebla City approximately every 15 minutes, the most economical services start from $ 140 pesos (~7 USD).

From other states of the Mexican territory it is possible to take a bus that arrives directly to the Central Bus Station of the City of Puebla. The most common transportation lines are ADO and Estrella Roja.

Most shops and services do not accept payments with foreign currency. Currency exchange offices are scarce in the city, so we recommend that you make the change of your currencies inside the airport of the City of Mexico where currency exchange facilities are available.

The exchange rate may change daily due to changes in the behavior of the world and local economy, but in the table, we have some approximations.
